Creating a Perfect You from a Broken Me

IMG_1579.jpg

This poem was written March 2018, when I noticed more acutely the ways my father wounds were manifested in my romantic relationships. He wasn’t a horrible father, just a conditional one. Facing harsh truths, I wrote this poem to begin the ongoing process of healing from this wound.

I sought for you in others...

Hoping,

Praying,

Creating a rendition of you that I believed to be what I needed and when I needed it.

Extracting pieces that were good in the others to create a super replica of you:

The unconditionally loving,

Caring,

Incredibly patient,

Emotionally available,

Encouraging father that I always needed but I never had

So I created you…

With pieces of others to create an image of you that never really existed,

To fill a void that always existed,

Seeking for it to never exist again.
